Types Of Skin Cancer

Basal Cell Cancer (BCC)

Basal Cell Cancer is the most common form of cancer. These usually start as a slightly discoloured patch of skin then become either slightly raised, with an acquired pearly colour, or ulcerated.

BCCs usually do not spread to other parts of the body but they can cause significant localised problems if left. They can be easily treated with either liquid nitrogen or a cream if discovered early. Your Doctor may recommend excision if needed.

Squamous Cell Cancer (SCC)

Squamous Cell Cancer is the second most common type of skin cancer. This usually occurs on head, hands and legs. Starts off as a scaly skin then changes to a slightly raised and often crusty bump. This can also ulcerate which can be confused in the elderly with a knock in the garden. If left these can spread to other parts of the body.

Melanoma

This is the most serious skin cancer. Melanoma will spread (metastasise) to other parts of the body and can be life threatening if not picked up early. This is where DELM can pick up melanoma at an earlier curable stage.
